3-5 September 3-13
Welcome back! We were so excited to see so many friendly faces on the first day of school. It is obvious that we are in for another fun and exciting year in the 3-5 cohort!
Picture Day, September 18th (Online ordering is suggested, paper forms are in the office)
Mini KEYS @ FES, Friday, September 27th
Your child has a blue sheet in their folder. This is the NEW communication sheet. With this sheet we are helping to guide children to hold their own discussions with an adult at home about what is going on at school. In the long-term, we are hoping this helps our students transition to KMS ready to carry more of the responsibility of communicating between home and school. In the short-term it gives students more ownership of their days and learning. The communication sheet will be changed out every other week.
Every night, your child should be reading. We will begin our small group reading during the week of the 16th, which means at that time your child will be coming home with book club work. Until then, please focus on building a great habit of having something to read and carving out 15-25 min. a night for reading.
Words homework will also begin to come home during the week of the 16th. Your child will bring home a sheet of activities and a copy of their words list. This is due the following week. Watch for more information to come home on the communication sheets and on the words homework itself.
Looking for more information on what we are working on in math? Please reference the information sheet that was sent home earlier this week. If you would like additional information and/or activities to play at home, check out this website: https://www.mathlearningcenter.org/families/bridges2
If you scroll to the colored circles with numbers, click on the grade of your child to find information particular to their grade.
Next week will consist of several assessments to help us get a strong baseline of student needs and understandings for the district. It is likely that your child will come home and be especially tired or maybe even frustrated. Please join us in encouraging them to do their best and reminding them that this is very temporary; we just need to work through a few online and paper assessments and we will move on!
