Week of September 10-13th

We had a great first week in 4k. You’d be amazed at how well the students are all adjusting to the routine. They’ve need less redirection each day.

In small groups, we started working on a colors book, worked on making lines and strokes, and used bingo dabbers to recognize and dab our names.

In gym we played duck, duck, goose. In Second Step, we met a puppet named Roger. We welcomed him to the classroom and introduced ourselves to him.

Red Home link folders were sent home on Thursday and are due back by Tuesday. There will be a homework activity to complete, as well as a letter explaining what we did in Second Step that week. You are encouraged to discuss and review the focus for the week at home. The only thing that needs to be returned is the homework activity. Make sure your child’s name is on it.

Next week we will start KELS testing (Kewaskum Early Literacy Screener) to see where each student is at academically in literacy. I will test on letter names and sounds. This test will also be used to show the growth that each student makes throughout the school year. By the end of 4k, the expectation is that all students will know all letters (uppercase and lowercase) and all letter sounds. We will be discussing this in more detail at the first home visit/ conference.

Next week, we will also be practicing colors and color mixing, lines and strokes, and coloring.
