Week of April 23rd-26th
This week we celebrated Earth Day by reading a couple books and doing an art project about how to keep the earth clean. We also learned the letter Zz. We will be reviewing all letters and sounds for the remainder of the school year. We started learning about planting, and what seeds need to grow. We planted some seeds, sorted seeds, and labeled seeds. We also had 27 chicks hatch! We had been incubating them for 21 days to go along with the life cycles unit in the k-2 cohort.
On Thursday we took a field trip to the Army National Guard. We got to sit inside a black hawk helicopter, and got to watch one take off! I think the students all had a great time.
The only part of testing we have left to complete is rhyming. I will be finishing that portion on Tuesday. The results will be sent home on May 10th.
Next week we will be doing a couple more planting projects. In Second Step we will be practicing listening rules, focusing attention, and using self-talk, and talking about the fact that they will still need to follow these rules in kindergarten.
We will be having Showcase Night at our school in our classroom next Thursday night from 6:00-7:00pm. We will have projects on display.
I'm excited for our 4k-5k transition day next Friday, May 4th! We will have snack and milk in the morning as usual. Please send a drink along with your child's lunch. We will eat lunch in the classroom. We will have a rest/quiet time after lunch. We will also have play time, recess, and will be spending some time in the k-2 cohort with the other students and teachers. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Have a great weekend
