Week of September 26th-30th
Math- Kindergarten will be working on counting groups of objects and comparing numbers. Kindergarten math homework will come home on Monday and will be due on the following Monday. First grade is working on building equations and learning about the equal and not equal signs. They will also be learning strategies for counting on. Second grade will be working on word problems (adding to and taking away from, and finding the unknown in word problems). 2nd grade will also start fastbridge testing for math next week.
Literacy- Mrs. Stahl's group will be FastBridge literacy testing all of next week. They will also be introduced to three new sight words: is, on, we. I'm sending home a list of the kindergarten sight words that we will be learning this year. I will test at the end of each trimester to see which words they've learned. 1st and 2nd grade is done with Fountas and Pinnell reading level testing. Your child will be bringing home books at their instructional level (level they are starting at this year). Mrs. Stahl's group is bringing home A-B levels to get them introduced to starting to read and pointing to words. Mrs. Wheiland and Mrs. Radmer's groups will be starting guided reading this week. Their focus will be on characters and character traits.
Projects: We are continuing to work on Properties of Matter. This week we observed a popsicle melting and documented the changes of solid to liquid. Next week we will be focusing on the color and texture of matter.
Field trip forms are due on Monday for the Building for Kids museum and discovery class. We will choose eight chaperones at random an let you know early next week if you were chosen.
9/30- Mini KEYS event at Farmington Elementary. Bus will leave i4L at 1:35, and will return at 3:30. Parents are welcome to meet at Farmington and take kids home from there if you'd like. Please let teachers know in advance.
10/12- K-2 Field trip to Building for Kids Museum (all day)
